If you were looking for the old, static http://www.sotobori.com webpage it is archived here.

This is a collection in blog format of random thoughts, essays, articles and musings about Japan, mainly focused on, but not limited to the Kanto/Tokyo area.  These were collected during the past 20+ years of not infrequent travel from SFO/SJC to NRT.  Please leave any criticism or comments if you have anything to add to any of these posts.   You can contact me at mailto://route246@sotobori.com

Additionally, there will be some off-topic posts related to NSE (Network and Systems Engineering) topics dealing with UNIX/Linux internals, architecture , TCP/IP, NFS, High Performance Engineering and Scientific Computing.  Please ignore those if you have no interest in this subject matter.

What’s with the change?  I have been contemplating this for a few years now.  I tried public blog sites and didn’t really like the performance and limitations.  I checked with the technical support folks at my ISP (1&1) and they recommended I try WordPress which is available as an application with my hosting account.  It didn’t take long to figure out that this was pretty cool stuff and this was going to work.  It also didn’t take me very long to find out that the application service provided by the ISP was also too limiting, especially with respect to security of various sections of the blog.  They recommended I install my own copy (all prereqs included with my hosting package, BTW) so I did.  Literally, two minutes later I was up and running.  It is an elegant piece of code.
